Orion Star Trails Over W. M. Keck Observatory
Located near the 4205m (13,800ft) summit of Hawaii's Mauna Kea volcano is the Mauna Kea Observatory (MKO), an international collection of observatories for optical, infrared, and submillimeter astronomy. Hawaii's isolation in the mid-Pacific Ocean and the high elevation of Mauna Kea makes it one of the best locations on Earth for ground-based astronomy.
Mauna Kea offers a unique location for night photography of majestic star trails. Long time exposures reveal the daily motions of the stars and planets as they rise and set.
